FHAP Story
It is evident that talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. Schools that are located in low-income neighborhoods have endured decades of inequality and also face the challenge of finding sufficient resources to deliver higher-level content in effective, engaging ways. We at St. Francis De Sales believe that change can never start too early. Since its inception in 2008, the goal of the organization is to support, enhance, and strengthen the quality of life of children and their families in our communities.
(Although our nonprofit aims to help any Brooklyn resident in need) in particular, our program targets low-income people. Decades of inequality have created conditions where youth have very few opportunities to succeed. The perceived hopelessness of their situation encourages destructive habits and can be seen in statistics such as significantly higher dropout rates, lower test scores, and higher truancy rates. In short, many of our youth are falling through the cracks. The St. Francis De Sales foundation is trying to fix that.
We believe that change can never start too early. The goal of our program is to empower young people to excel in school and make positive changes in their lives. This will be accomplished by providing mentoring and after-school programs for middle and high school youth, with focuses such as education and job readiness. Our nonprofit looks to provide financial, business, and volunteer support to local organizations and programs that offer positive support systems in the community.
The St. Francis De Sales Foundation’s long-term goal is to establish a learning laboratory that will be an invaluable resource center to young people, aspiring mentors, and the community at large. Until then, we will start by strategically partnering with local groups or organizations to deliver these services.
